Pinhal was the second golf course built in Vilamoura. Inaugurated in 1976, it was originally designed by Frank Pennink, the same architect of the nearby Oceanico Old Course, and in 1985 it has received significant refinements under the direction of Robert Trent Jones Sr.

Oceanico-PinhalPinhal was vastly changed from the original design and underwent some major redevelopment. Seven holes have been changed and the Club House was completely renovated and modernized, with all facilities, as today you can step up to the large balcony and enjoy a panoramic view over the excellent driving range.

Oceanico Pinhal is now a super course with wider, more open fairways than The Old Course, but smaller greens ensure that accurate approach shots are required. Water comes into play on several holes and there is a superb modern Club House.

To keep up with modern technical advances in clubs and balls, several holes have recently been lengthened and the par 72 course now measures 6353m off the white tee markers. More recently the 12th, 15th & 16th have been remodelled. It has made the 15th a very inviting hole for someone with a long drive. Pinhal winds its way through the umbrella pines which the Algarve courses have become famous for, undulating landscape and some tricky approaches to greens making it more difficult than first thought.

It is typified by rolling parkland terrain covered with numerous umbrella and Atlantic pines that line many of the fairways and a few even stand out on fairways or near greens.Ponds and a stream come into play on five holes but are not serious threats to above-average golfers.
